We live in a fascinating and unsettling age. Never before has humanity had access to so much information, such technological power, and so many tools capable of imitating functions that for centuries seemed exclusively human. Artificial intelligence already writes texts, creates images, answers questions, translates languages, drives vehicles, diagnoses illnesses, and even holds conversations that appear deeply personal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many wonder: what place does God have in a world governed by algorithms? Can a Catholic use artificial intelligence? Is it a legitimate tool, or are we facing a new form of modern idolatry? Does AI bring us closer to good or further away from our humanity and our relationship with God?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These questions are not exaggerated. They are profoundly relevant today. And the Church, though prudent, does not remain silent in the face of this technological revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The issue is not merely technological. The real issue is spiritual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because behind every great human advancement, the same ancient temptation always appears: to build a modern Tower of Babel and believe that man can save himself without God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the dawn of humanity, man has desired to dominate nature. God Himself gave mankind authority over creation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cFill the earth and subdue it\u201d (Gen 1:28).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Science and technology, in themselves, are not evil. The Church has never been an enemy of true progress. In fact, many of history\u2019s great scientists were believers: priests, monks, or devoted Catholics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Artificial intelligence is born precisely from that rational capacity God granted to humanity. Man can create tools because he was created in the image and likeness of God:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It does not think the way a person thinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It does not love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It does not pray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It has no moral conscience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It cannot sin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It has no human dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AI is, essentially, an extremely advanced tool capable of analyzing enormous quantities of data and generating responses according to learned patterns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It can imitate human emotions, but it cannot feel them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It can generate religious prayers, but it cannot have faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It can explain the Bible, but it cannot know God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This distinction is fundamentally important theologically. The human being is not merely intelligence. Man possesses a spiritual and immortal soul. Therein lies his incomparable dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Saint Thomas Aquinas taught that the rational soul is what elevates man above the rest of material creation. No machine, no matter how sophisticated, possesses a soul created by God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Therefore, even the most advanced artificial intelligence will never truly replace a human person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\nThe Great Risk: Turning Technology Into an Idol<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Artificial intelligence can easily become a new \u201cgolden calf.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because it promises something deeply seductive:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- almost unlimited knowledge,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- instant answers,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- control,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- efficiency,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- power,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- even a false sense of omniscience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Many are beginning to turn to AI the way people once turned to human wisdom or even religion. Some seek existential answers, emotional comfort, or absolute moral guidance from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But no machine can take the place of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prophet Jeremiah warned:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cCursed is the man who trusts in man and turns his heart away from the Lord\u201d (Jer 17:5).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The serpent already promised something similar in Eden:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Church has always taught that human tools can be used for good or evil depending on the intention and the use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Artificial intelligence can help in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- education,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- medicine,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- evangelization,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- translation of religious texts,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- access to knowledge,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- pastoral organization,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- spreading the Gospel,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- preserving Christian heritage,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- assisting those in need.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
It can even make it easier for millions of people to discover religious content they otherwise would never have encountered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A priest can use AI to organize catechesis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A student can research theology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An evangelizer can spread Catholic content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A sick person can find initial help or guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The tool itself is not the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The real question is whether man continues to govern the tool or eventually becomes enslaved by it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here we encounter one of the greatest pastoral risks of our time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many people already live permanently connected, yet spiritually empty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They consume religious information, but they do not pray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They watch videos about God, but never enter a church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They speak about spirituality, but never go to confession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They read inspirational phrases, but they do not convert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Artificial intelligence could increase this illusion of superficial religiosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because knowing much about God does not mean knowing God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A person may read thousands of theological explanations and still have a soul far from the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Christian life does not consist in accumulating information, but in living in grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another troubling aspect is the emotional use of AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
More and more people speak with artificial systems seeking companionship, understanding, or affection. This reveals a deep wound in our society: loneliness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We live hyperconnected and, at the same time, profoundly isolated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Church reminds us that man was created for real communion, not virtual existence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a danger of taking refuge in artificial interactions in order to avoid the demands of real love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because true love involves sacrifice, patience, and vulnerability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A machine will never demand moral conversion from us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
God will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\nArtificial Intelligence and the Manipulation of Truth<\/h1>\n\n\n\n
We also live in an extremely dangerous age for truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AI can generate fake images, fake speeches, fake voices, and fake news with enormous ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI should be a tool, never the master of our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It must remain subordinate to moral and spiritual good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\n2. Maintain a Real Sacramental Life<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Nothing can replace:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- the Eucharist,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- confession,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- prayer,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- spiritual reading,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- spiritual direction,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- the Christian community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
Faith cannot be lived solely through screens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Christian must continually ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is happening to the human soul?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because a technologically advanced society can still be spiritually sick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Man will continue to need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- truth,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- grace,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- mercy,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- meaning,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- hope,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- authentic love.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
And none of these can be artificially manufactured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Saint Paul wrote:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cAll things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful\u201d (1 Cor 6:12).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
This phrase perfectly summarizes the current challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Technology can do many things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the Christian must always ask whether those things are beneficial for the soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\n\n\nA Final Reflection for Our Time<\/h1>\n\n\n\n
Perhaps the greatest danger of artificial intelligence is not that machines become human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Perhaps the greatest danger is that humans become increasingly mechanical:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- without silence,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- without contemplation,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- without prayer,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- without depth,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
