One of these is the <strong>Preface of the Mass<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many hear it as just another introduction. But in reality, it is an <strong>open door to Heaven<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today we are going to pause there. Not superficially, but with theological depth, spiritual meaning, and practical implications for your life. Because understanding the Preface\u2026 can change the way you live the Mass forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is the Preface? Much more than a simple introduction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Preface is the prayer proclaimed by the priest just before the <strong>Sanctus<\/strong>. It is an essential part of the <strong>Eucharistic Prayer<\/strong>, and its function is not to \u201cfill space,\u201d but to <strong>raise the soul of the entire Church to God<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its structure is profoundly rich:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Opening dialogue<\/strong>:<br>\u201cThe Lord be with you\u2026 Lift up your hearts\u2026 Let us give thanks to the Lord our God\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Thanksgiving<\/strong>:<br>The reasons why we give thanks are expressed (Christ, Redemption, the mystery of the day\u2026).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Union with Heaven<\/strong>:<br>\u201cAnd so, with the Angels and Saints\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not just any text. It is a <strong>living liturgical action<\/strong>, in which the Church <strong>enters into communion with all creation, visible and invisible<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cHow many are at Mass?\u201d \u2014 A question that shatters assumptions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let me ask you the same question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How many are at Mass?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you answer \u201cthose present in the church,\u201d you are only scratching the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The true answer is astonishing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>All humanity.<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>All creation.<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>Heaven itself.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not poetry. It is theology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cThe Lord be with you\u201d: a universal dimension<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When the priest says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThe Lord be with you\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is not addressing only those present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Church\u2019s liturgical logic, that \u201cyou\u201d has a <strong>universal scope<\/strong>. Because the Mass is not a private act: it is the sacrifice of Jesus Christ offered <strong>for all and on behalf of all<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Scripture teaches:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cGod desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth\u201d (1 Timothy 2:4)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>At every Mass, even if only a few people are physically present, <strong>the intention embraces all humanity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cLift up your hearts\u201d: a real ascent, not symbolic<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here something extraordinary happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we respond:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cWe lift them up to the Lord\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are not stating a poetic metaphor. We are affirming a spiritual reality:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 Our hearts are lifted to Heaven.<br>\ud83d\udc49 We unite ourselves to the heavenly liturgy.<br>\ud83d\udc49 We enter the \u201cHoly of Holies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This connects with the vision of Revelation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cBehold, a door standing open in heaven\u2026\u201d (Revelation 4:1)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mass <strong>opens that door<\/strong>. And the Preface is the threshold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cLet us give thanks to the Lord our God\u201d: the Eucharist at the center<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The word \u201cEucharist\u201d literally means <strong>thanksgiving<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Preface, it is made explicit <strong>why we give thanks<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For the Incarnation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For Redemption<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the victory over sin and death<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the specific mystery of the liturgical day (Christmas, Easter, saints\u2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This educates the soul. It teaches us to live in a spirit of gratitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Saint Paul says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cGive thanks in all circumstances\u201d (1 Thessalonians 5:18)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Preface does not merely describe thanksgiving\u2026 <strong>it draws us into it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cAnd so, with the Angels\u2026\u201d: the liturgy of Heaven invades the earth<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here the most astonishing mystery is revealed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We are not alone.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the priest proclaims:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cAnd so, with Angels and Archangels\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 He is calling upon the entire heavenly court.<br>\ud83d\udc49 He is uniting earthly liturgy with heavenly liturgy.<br>\ud83d\udc49 He is making present eternal worship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not a literary device. It is a theological reality deeply rooted in Tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Letter to the Hebrews expresses it this way:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cYou have come to Mount Zion\u2026 to innumerable angels in festal gathering\u201d (Hebrews 12:22)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The great truth: even if the church is empty\u2026 it is full<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is the key that changes everything:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 Even if few are present\u2026<br>\ud83d\udc49 Even if there is no atmosphere\u2026<br>\ud83d\udc49 Even if you are distracted\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Mass is never empty.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because within it are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>All humanity<\/strong> (the living and the dead)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>All the souls in Heaven<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>All the angels<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And above all:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>Christ Himself, offering His sacrifice on the Cross in an unbloody manner<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Theological development: the Preface as participation in the cosmic sacrifice<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From a theological perspective, the Preface has a <strong>cosmic and eschatological dimension<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cosmic<\/strong>:<br>All creation is summoned to give glory to God (cf. Psalm 148).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Christological<\/strong>:<br>All things are recapitulated in Christ (cf. Ephesians 1:10).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ecclesial<\/strong>:<br>The Church acts as mediator, uniting heaven and earth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Eschatological<\/strong>:<br>The Mass anticipates the eternal liturgy of Heaven.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The Preface is therefore a moment when time opens\u2026 and touches eternity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Practical application: how to live the Preface today<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where everything becomes concrete in your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. <strong>Do not respond mechanically<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Each dialogue of the Preface is a <strong>profession of faith<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. <strong>Truly lift up your heart<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Make an interior act:<br>\ud83d\udc49 \u201cLord, I leave my worries behind and rise to You\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. <strong>Listen to the reasons for thanksgiving<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Each liturgical day carries a specific message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. <strong>Be aware of communion with Heaven<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You are not alone. Never.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. <strong>Live the Sanctus as an explosion of adoration<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the song of the angels\u2026 on your lips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion: the Preface is a door\u2026 will you walk through it?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem is not that the Mass is poor.<br>The problem is that <strong>we do not see its greatness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Preface is telling you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 \u201cRise.\u201d<br>\ud83d\udc49 \u201cLook higher.\u201d<br>\ud83d\udc49 \u201cDo not remain in the visible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because at that moment, Heaven opens\u2026 and you are invited in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next time you hear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cLift up your hearts\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not a liturgical phrase.<br>It is a <strong>call to enter into the mystery of God<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And there\u2026 you are no longer alone.
