One of them is that small but powerful act we perform just before the proclamation of the Gospel: <strong>tracing three small crosses on the forehead, the lips, and the chest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many do it out of habit. Few understand what it really means. And even fewer truly live it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today we are going to pause there. Because what happens in that moment is not a simple ritual: it is a <strong>total consecration to the Word of God<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u271d\ufe0f A small gesture with ancient roots<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The sign of the cross is one of the oldest signs in Christianity. Already in the early centuries, Christians marked their bodies with the cross as a sign of belonging to Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The great Father of the Church Tertullian expressed it this way:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIn all our travels and movements, in coming in and going out, when dressing, bathing, sitting at table\u2026 we mark our foreheads with the sign of the cross.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the specific gesture of <strong>tracing three crosses before the Gospel<\/strong> became established in medieval liturgy, as an expression of interior preparation:<br>it is not enough to hear the Gospel\u2026 one must <strong>receive it with one\u2019s whole being<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udcd6 What does this gesture really mean?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When the priest (and the faithful) make the three small signs of the cross before the Gospel, they are making a silent, profound, and demanding prayer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not magic. It is a commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. \u271d\ufe0f On the forehead: \u201cMay it be in my mind\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>By tracing the cross on the forehead, we ask God:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <em>To enlighten our understanding<\/em><br>\ud83d\udc49 <em>To help us comprehend the Word<\/em><br>\ud83d\udc49 <em>To prevent us from distorting it with our own ideas<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the Gospel is not meant to adapt to us\u2026<br><strong>we are the ones who must be transformed by it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here lies an uncomfortable truth: many hear the Gospel, but few truly understand it deeply, because they do not allow God to renew their way of thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Scripture says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cDo not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind\u201d (Romans 12:2)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. \u271d\ufe0f On the lips: \u201cMay it be on my lips\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>By marking the lips, we ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <em>To proclaim the truth<\/em><br>\ud83d\udc49 <em>To speak according to the Gospel<\/em><br>\ud83d\udc49 <em>To avoid lies, gossip, and judgment<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because it is useless to hear the Word\u2026 if our words constantly contradict Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, the sign of the cross becomes an examination of conscience:<br>do I speak as a Christian\u2026 or as the world does?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lord Himself warns us:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cOut of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks\u201d (Luke 6:45)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. \u271d\ufe0f On the chest: \u201cMay it be in my heart\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the center of everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By tracing the cross on the chest, we ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <em>To love the Word<\/em><br>\ud83d\udc49 <em>To keep the Gospel deep within us<\/em><br>\ud83d\udc49 <em>To let it transform our decisions<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because Christianity is not an idea\u2026 it is a life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the Word of God cannot remain in the mind or on the lips:<br>it must descend into the heart, where our actions are born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the psalmist says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you\u201d (Psalm 119:11)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd25 A powerful synthesis: thinking, speaking, and living the Gospel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This gesture contains an extraordinary spiritual logic:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Forehead \u2192 Think like Christ<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lips \u2192 Speak like Christ<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Chest \u2192 Love and live like Christ<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is, ultimately, a <strong>total consecration of the human person to the Gospel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not enough to listen.<br>It is not enough to know.<br>It is not enough to repeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>It must be embodied.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u26ea How is it properly done in the liturgy?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This moment takes place just before the proclamation of the Gospel during Holy Mass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step by step:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The priest announces:<br><strong>\u201cA reading from the Holy Gospel according to\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At that moment, <strong>everyone<\/strong> (priest and faithful) makes:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A small cross with the thumb on the forehead<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A small cross on the lips<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A small cross on the chest<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While doing so, they pray interiorly:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <em>\u201cMay the Lord be in my mind, on my lips, and in my heart\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Then the Gospel is proclaimed\u2026 in an attitude of faith, attention, and reverence.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u26a0\ufe0f The danger of doing it without thinking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here lies the great problem today:<br><strong>routine has emptied the gesture of its meaning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is done quickly. Without awareness. Without intention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But an empty gesture\u2026 does not transform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The liturgy is not theater. It is a real encounter with God.<br>And every sign is designed to touch the soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If this gesture is lived well, it changes the way you listen to the Gospel.<br>If it is lived poorly\u2026 it goes unnoticed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f Practical applications for your daily life<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This gesture should not remain only in the Mass. It has concrete consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Before reading the Bible at home<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Do the same:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u271d\ufe0f Forehead<br>\u271d\ufe0f Lips<br>\u271d\ufe0f Heart<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And ask God to transform you through His Word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Before making important decisions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ask yourself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is this in line with the Gospel? (mind)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can I defend it in truth? (lips)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Am I doing it with right intention? (heart)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. In your daily life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Turn this gesture into a daily examination:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What have I thought today?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What have I said?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What have I loved and done?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u271d\ufe0f A call to coherence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The world today needs coherent Christians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not perfect\u2026 but authentic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This small gesture is, in reality, a radical declaration:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <em>I want the Gospel to transform everything in me.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not just a ritual.<br>It is a decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd1a Conclusion: what you do in two seconds\u2026 can mark your eternity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The next time you hear the Gospel at Mass, do not make this gesture automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pause. Be aware.
