Never have we had so much access to information\u2026 and yet never has it been so common to doubt everything. Especially when it comes to faith. Many people ask: <em>is the New Testament a collection of late legends\u2026 or a reliable testimony of real events?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer, when examined with rigor, is striking: <strong>the New Testament is one of the best-attested documents in all of antiquity<\/strong>. And not only from the standpoint of faith, but according to strict historical criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This article aims to guide you through a clear, deep, and honest journey: <strong>the evidence for the reliability of the New Testament<\/strong>, not only to convince the mind\u2026 but to illuminate the heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. What does \u201ctruthfulness\u201d mean in historical terms?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before we begin, it is important to clarify something:<br>Historians cannot \u201cprove\u201d a miracle the way one proves a mathematical formula. But they can evaluate whether a text is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ancient and close to the events<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Well transmitted (without major alterations)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Confirmed by multiple sources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coherent within its historical context<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And this is precisely where the New Testament does not merely pass the test\u2026 <strong>it surpasses it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. The bibliographical test: how much time separates the events from the manuscripts?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is one of the most important criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>shorter the gap between the event and the manuscript that records it<\/strong>, the greater the reliability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udcdc In the case of the New Testament:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The events (the life of Jesus Christ) take place approximately between 30 and 33 A.D.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The earliest writings (the letters of St. Paul) date from around 50 A.D.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Gospels are written between 60 and 90 A.D.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 That is, <strong>within the same generation as the eyewitnesses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But even more impressive is this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2728 Key manuscripts:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Rylands Papyrus (P52)<\/strong> \u2192 dated around 125 A.D.<br>Contains a fragment of the Gospel of John.<br>\ud83d\udc49 Barely <strong>90 years after the death of Christ<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bodmer Papyri (P66 and P75)<\/strong> \u2192 2nd\u20133rd centuries<br>Extensive portions of the Gospels of John and Luke.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Codex Sinaiticus<\/strong> (4th century)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Codex Vaticanus<\/strong> (4th century)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 These contain almost <strong>the entire New Testament<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2696\ufe0f Comparison with other ancient authors:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Homer \u2192 ~500 years between the original and the manuscripts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Julius Caesar \u2192 ~1,000 years<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tacitus \u2192 ~1,000 years<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 And yet, no one doubts their authenticity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The New Testament has a far shorter gap.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Internal coherence: a unified message<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The New Testament was written by multiple authors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fishermen (Peter)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A physician (Luke)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A learned Pharisee (Paul)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eyewitnesses (John)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And yet, it conveys a coherent message:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The identity of Jesus Christ<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>His death and resurrection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The call to conversion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As Scripture says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThat which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you\u201d (1 John 1:3)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>These are not distant myths.<br><strong>They are testimonies.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. The criterion of embarrassing testimony<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A detail highly valued by historians:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 If a text invents a story, it avoids what is embarrassing.<br>\ud83d\udc49 If it tells the truth, it includes even what reflects poorly on its protagonists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples from the New Testament:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Peter denies Christ<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The disciples doubt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Women (whose testimony had little social value at the time) are the first to witness the Resurrection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This is not propaganda. It is honest memory.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. External confirmations: not everything comes from the Bible<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Even non-Christian authors mention Jesus and the early Christians:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tacitus \u2192 speaks of Christ\u2019s execution<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pliny the Younger \u2192 describes Christians worshipping Christ as God<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flavius Josephus \u2192 mentions Jesus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 This confirms that <strong>we are not dealing with an internal invention<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>7. The theological dimension: more than history<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Up to this point, we could remain at an academic level.<br>But the New Testament is not just a reliable document\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is <strong>the living Word<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the Church, it is inspired by the Holy Spirit.<br>It does not merely transmit data\u2026 <strong>it transmits salvation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As St. Paul writes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cAll Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching\u201d (2 Timothy 3:16)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>8. Practical application: what changes in your life?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Knowing that the New Testament is reliable is not a cold fact.<br>It has concrete consequences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2728 1. You can trust Christ<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You are not following a myth, but a real Person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2728 2. Your faith is not irrational<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It is reasonable, historical, and solid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2728 3. The Word of God has authority<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not opinion. It is truth that challenges you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2728 4. You are called to respond<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not enough to know. You must live it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>9. A challenge for our time<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, everything is questioned:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Truth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>History<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Morality<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But the problem is not a lack of evidence\u2026<br><strong>it is resistance to accepting what that evidence implies.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because if the New Testament is true\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 Then Christ is who He says He is<br>\ud83d\udc49 Then His message is not optional<br>\ud83d\udc49 Then our lives must change<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion: from evidence to faith<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We can say it without fear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>No work of antiquity has the documentary support of the New Testament.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not in temporal proximity<br>Not in number of manuscripts<br>Not in coherence<br>Not in historical impact<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yet, the Christian faith is not based on evidence alone\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is based on an encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd25 For reflection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Christ does not ask whether you have read enough manuscripts.<br>He asks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cBut who do you say that I am?\u201d (Matthew 16:15)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Final pastoral guide<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Read the Gospel every day (even if only 5 minutes)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not fear questions: faith and reason do not oppose each other<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go deeper: study, investigate, be formed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Live what you discover<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Because in the end, the greatest proof of the truth of the Gospel\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>is a transformed life.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We live in a paradoxical age.
