It is a radical declaration that runs through all of Sacred Scripture and defines the lives of the saints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a world marked by distraction, haste, and avoidance, recovering the deep meaning of this \u201chere I am\u201d can become an interior revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This article is not only to understand the concept. It is to live it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. \u201cPraesto sum\u201d: more than presence, total availability<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To say \u201cpraesto sum\u201d is not simply to be physically present. It is something far more demanding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is <strong>interior availability<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is <strong>free obedience<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is <strong>total surrender<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is <strong>a response to a call<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not the same to say \u201cI am here\u201d as to say <strong>\u201cI am here for You.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In spiritual theology, this is directly connected to the virtue of <strong>docility to the will of God<\/strong>, which is not passivity, but an active cooperation with grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Genesis 22:1)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abraham did not know what was coming. But he was available. And that was enough for God to build upon him an eternal covenant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Samuel: the heart that learns to listen<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSpeak, Lord, for your servant is listening\u201d (1 Samuel 3:10)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Samuel does not recognize God\u2019s voice at first. But his attitude is the key: humble availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Isaiah: the prophet who offers himself<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhom shall I send?\u2026 Here I am, send me\u201d (Isaiah 6:8)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here the \u201cpraesto sum\u201d appears in its most missionary form: not only am I here\u2026 <strong>I want to be sent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Virgin Mary: the perfect \u201cyes\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBehold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to your word\u201d (Luke 1:38)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is the summit. Mary is not only available: <strong>she gives herself completely to God\u2019s plan<\/strong>, without reserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Christ Himself: the incarnate \u201cPraesto Sum\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHere I am, O God, to do your will\u201d (cf. Theological dimension: \u201cpraesto sum\u201d as an act of love<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From a theological perspective, saying \u201cpraesto sum\u201d implies several profound realities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>a) It is an act of faith<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To believe that God calls. To believe that His will is good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>b) It is an act of hope<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To trust that, even if we do not understand, He guides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>c) It is an act of charity<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To love God to the point of preferring His will over our own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saint Thomas Aquinas explains that Christian perfection consists in conformity to the divine will. \u201cPraesto sum\u201d is precisely that: <strong>an interior alignment with God<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. The present drama: a generation that avoids saying \u201chere I am\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We live in a time that flees from commitment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Relationships without surrender<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vocations postponed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Decisions avoided<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faith lived \u201chalfway\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem is not that God has stopped calling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem is that <strong>we have stopped responding<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cI\u2019ll see\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cLater\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cIt\u2019s not the right time\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But God keeps asking:<br><strong>\u201cWhom shall I send?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the silence of the soul becomes a form of rejection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Obstacles to living \u201cpraesto sum\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fear<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are afraid of losing control. But there is no surrender without risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Comfort<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We prefer a safe life over a full one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Interior noise<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We do not listen because we are saturated with stimuli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lack of prayer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without prayer, there is no call\u2026 and without a call, there is no response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. How to live \u201cpraesto sum\u201d today (practical guide)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is where the message becomes concrete life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Begin the day by saying: \u201cLord, here I am\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before your phone. Before the noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A simple prayer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLord, here I am. Do with me whatever You will.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This changes the orientation of your day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Learn to listen<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPraesto sum\u201d is not about speaking\u2026 it is about listening first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dedicate time to silence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read Scripture<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practice adoration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God does not shout. Discern your vocation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your life has a concrete mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Marriage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Priesthood<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consecrated life<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Committed lay life<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPraesto sum\u201d is not generic. It is personal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. Persevere when you feel nothing<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">True availability does not depend on emotions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is fidelity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>7. The fruit: a life with meaning<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whoever lives \u201cpraesto sum\u201d discovers something astonishing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They no longer live for themselves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They stop constantly seeking themselves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They find peace in the midst of chaos<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They live with purpose<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the greatest freedom is not in doing what you want\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But in <strong>wanting what God wants<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>8. Final prayer: learning to say \u201cPraesto Sum\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can pray like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lord,<br>so many times I have been present\u2026 but not for You.<br>So many times I have heard\u2026 but I have not responded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today I want to say to You: here I am.<br>Without conditions. Without excuses. Without reserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Take my life, my plans, my fears.<br>Do with me whatever You will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teach me to listen.<br>Teach me to trust.<br>Teach me to love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Praesto sum, Domine.<\/strong><br>Here I am, Lord.<br>Amen.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion: the question you cannot ignore<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God is still calling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not only the saints.<br>Not only the consecrated.<br><strong>You.
