Everything seems to be explained in terms of forces, vibrations, frequencies, invisible impulses. People speak of \u201cpositive energy,\u201d of \u201cconnecting with the universe,\u201d of \u201cflowing,\u201d of \u201cfeeling something inside.\u201d And, sadly, this language has also contaminated the way many Christians speak about\u2014and think about\u2014the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is why it is urgent to say it clearly, with charity and with truth:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>The Holy Spirit is not an energy.<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>He is not an impersonal force.<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>He is not an intense emotion or a psychological state.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Holy Spirit is God.<\/strong><br><strong>He is a divine Person\u2014living, conscious, loving, speaking, guiding, and sanctifying.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This article seeks to <strong>educate<\/strong>, <strong>awaken<\/strong>, <strong>purify errors<\/strong>, and <strong>invite you into a real and deep relationship with Him<\/strong>, grounded in the Catholic faith, Sacred Scripture, and the living Tradition of the Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. The great modern error: confusing the Holy Spirit with a force<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In many environments\u2014even ecclesial ones\u2014you often hear people say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cI felt a very strong energy\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cThe Spirit is like a current\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cIt was an impressive vibration\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cSomething was moving in the atmosphere\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Although these expressions are sometimes used with good intentions, <strong>this language is deeply problematic<\/strong>, because it <strong>reduces God to something<\/strong>, when <strong>God is Someone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>An energy does not love.<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>An energy does not speak.<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>An energy does not teach.<\/strong><br>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>An energy cannot be obeyed or resisted.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yet the Bible clearly says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cThe Holy Spirit will teach you all things\u201d<\/strong> (Jn 14:26)<br><strong>\u201cThe Spirit intercedes for us\u201d<\/strong> (Rom 8:26)<br><strong>\u201cDo not grieve the Holy Spirit of God\u201d<\/strong> (Eph 4:30)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2757 <strong>Only a Person can teach, intercede, and be grieved.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Who is the Holy Spirit really?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Third Person of the Most Holy Trinity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Catholic faith proclaims with millennial precision:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>One God<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Three distinct Persons<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Father<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Son<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Holy Spirit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Holy Spirit is <strong>not inferior<\/strong>, <strong>not an emanation<\/strong>, <strong>not a mere extension<\/strong> of the Father or the Son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>He is fully God<\/strong>, consubstantial with the Father and the Son.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Creed proclaims it without ambiguity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cI believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>It does not say \u201cenergy.\u201d<br>It does not say \u201cforce.\u201d<br>It does not say \u201cimpulse.\u201d<br>It says <strong>Lord<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd25 Eternal Love between the Father and the Son<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Classical theology teaches that the Holy Spirit is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>personal Love<\/strong> between the Father and the Son<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>uncreated Gift<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>eternal bond of communion<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He is not something that is \u201cused\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He is Someone with whom we <strong>enter into communion<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Scripture is clear: the Spirit acts as a Person<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From the beginning to the end of the Bible, the Holy Spirit <strong>speaks and acts as a personal subject<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udcd6 In the Old Testament<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He hovers over the waters (Gen 1:2)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He speaks through the prophets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He grants wisdom and strength<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udcd6 In the New Testament<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He descends upon Mary (Lk 1:35)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He leads Jesus into the desert (Lk 4:1)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He speaks at Pentecost (Acts 2)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus Himself presents Him as <strong>Someone distinct from Himself<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cWhen the Paraclete comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father\u2026 He will bear witness to me\u201d<\/strong> (Jn 15:26)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2757 He bears witness. He does not \u201cemit energy.\u201d<br>\u2757 He sends. He does not \u201cvibrate.\u201d<br>\u2757 He guides. He does not \u201cflow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Why is it dangerous to think the Spirit is an energy?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Because this error leads to serious spiritual consequences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u274c He is instrumentalized<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Energy is used.<br>The Holy Spirit is <strong>obeyed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u274c He is confused with emotions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Not everything intense comes from God.<br>Grace <strong>is not always felt<\/strong>, but it always transforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u274c The door is opened to syncretism<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Christian faith becomes mixed with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New Age ideas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eastern spiritualities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Psychological experiences disguised as mysticism<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>When the Spirit becomes \u201csomething,\u201d Christ ceases to be the center.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. So\u2026 how does the Holy Spirit really act?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is the key:<br><strong>The Holy Spirit does not primarily act on the senses, but on the soul.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His action is <strong>deep, silent, and transforming<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2728 His principal work:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To sanctify<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To enlighten the intellect<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To move the will toward the good<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To conform us to Christ<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Clear signs that the Holy Spirit is acting in you<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>(do not confuse these with passing emotions)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are <strong>solid, theological, and pastoral criteria<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f 1. Love for truth grows within you<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You desire to know doctrine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You flee from relativism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sin troubles you, even the \u201csocially acceptable\u201d kind<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cWhen He comes, the Spirit of truth, He will guide you into all the truth\u201d<\/strong> (Jn 16:13)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f 2. Your desire for real prayer increases<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Not just to \u201cfeel\u201d something<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>But to persevere<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Even when there is no consolation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 The Spirit does not create emotional dependence, but <strong>fidelity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f 3. An interior rejection of sin is born<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Not out of fear, but out of love<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It pains you to offend God<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A sincere desire for confession appears<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not psychology.<br>It is <strong>sanctifying grace at work<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f 4. True humility grows<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Less protagonism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More docility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Greater obedience to the Church<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2757 The Holy Spirit <strong>never produces spiritual pride<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f 5. The fruits of the Spirit appear (Gal 5:22)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>\u201cLove, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>It does not say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>euphoria<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>spectacle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>loss of control<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It says <strong>self-control<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Practical guide: how to relate correctly to the Holy Spirit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2714\ufe0f 1. Speak to Him as to a Person<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Say to Him:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cGuide me\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cTeach me\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cCorrect me\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cSanctify me\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Do not \u201cactivate\u201d Him.<br>Do not \u201cchannel\u201d Him.<br>Do not \u201cuse\u201d Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2714\ufe0f 2. Invoke Him in the sacraments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Confession<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eucharist<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Confirmation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <strong>The Spirit acts with maximum power in sacramental life<\/strong>, not apart from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2714\ufe0f 3. Ask for docility, not for experiences<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Holiness is not about feeling a lot.<br>It is about <strong>loving well and persevering<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2714\ufe0f 4. Always discern with the Church<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Holy Spirit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Does not contradict the Magisterium<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does not despise Tradition<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Does not relativize truth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Where there is constant confusion, the Spirit of God is not acting.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Conclusion: from \u201cfeeling something\u201d to living with Someone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Holy Spirit <strong>is not an energy that runs through you<\/strong>.<br>He is <strong>God dwelling within you<\/strong> if you are in a state of grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He does not promise constant emotions.<br>He promises <strong>new life<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He does not give you \u201cpower.\u201d<br>He gives you <strong>holiness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today more than ever, we need Christians who can say with conviction:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udc49 <em>\u201cI do not follow invisible forces.\u201d<\/em><br>\ud83d\udc49 <em>\u201cI do not chase spiritual sensations.\u201d<\/em><br>\ud83d\udc49 <em>\u201cI believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And you\u2026<br>Are you treating Him like a force\u2026<br>or like the living God who wants to transform you from within?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We live in an age fascinated by energy.
