But is it true that Charles Darwin and his theory of evolution have banished God from the universe? Can a Catholic believe in evolution without renouncing their faith? What does the Church really teach on these matters?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this article, we\u2019ll walk through the history of the debate and the Church\u2019s current teachings. Above all, we\u2019ll offer a guide to living out your faith coherently in a world that often ridicules the spiritual in the name of \u201cscience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to read the Bible the way the Church does: paying attention to literary genres<\/strong> and theological meaning, not as a biology book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Genesis says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThen the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.\u201d (Genesis 2:7)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This verse does not describe a physical process, but a profound truth<\/strong>: the human being is not a product of chance, but the fruit of God\u2019s love<\/strong>, with an immortal soul created in His image and likeness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The story of Adam and Eve teaches that humanity was created good, but with freedom, and that evil entered the world through a moral choice. This is not incompatible<\/strong> with biological evolution\u2014it speaks on the spiritual plane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. The Dangers of Scientism and Fideism<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Church, as a wise mother and teacher, also warns against two extremes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Scientism<\/strong>: the belief that the only valid truth is scientific, and that whatever cannot be measured or tested in a lab does not exist. This error reduces the human being to a biological machine with no soul, and life to an accident with no purpose.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Fideism<\/strong>: rejecting all science as suspicious or contrary to faith. This leads to cultural isolation and prevents the evangelization of the modern world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Let us remember that Jesus Himself took on a human body<\/strong>. This dignifies our flesh and reaffirms that we are creatures, not mistakes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    6. A Theological and Pastoral Guide to Living Your Faith in a Scientific World<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    \u2705 1. Cultivate an Intelligent Faith<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    Study your faith. Read the Catechism, encyclicals (Fides et Ratio<\/em>, Humani Generis<\/em>, Laudato Si\u2019<\/em>), and seek formation in bioethics, anthropology, and theology. Faith is not the enemy of knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    God also reveals Himself in His creation. Studying the universe is a form of praise. Many scientists were and are believers: Mendel, Lemaitre (a priest and father of the Big Bang), Pasteur, and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \u2705 5. Contemplate the Mystery of Your Being<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    You are not an accident. You were created with love. Your body may have a biological history, but your soul has been breathed into you by God. That makes you infinitely valuable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    7. How to Apply This in Daily Life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    • When you speak with people who have lost faith \u201cbecause of science\u201d<\/strong>, don\u2019t mock their doubts. Listen, understand, and offer solid answers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • When faced with news or documentaries that exclude God<\/strong>, remember that scientific methods are not designed to measure the spiritual. Don\u2019t confuse methodological silence with ontological denial.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • When you feel your faith is weak under the weight of so much scientific data<\/strong>, return to the essential: Why is there something rather than nothing? Why does life have meaning? Why do we love, dream, and seek truth? There lies God.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • When you pray<\/strong>, contemplate creation. Give thanks for the wonder of the human body, for the history of life on Earth, for the stars. All of it speaks to you of God.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
